LAA & ACC Summer Art Camp

The Lebanese American Association of Burlingame in collaboration with the Atherton Arts Committee and Wells Fargo Bank are running their first Outreach Summer Art Camp!!!

The Venue of the Summer Art Camp is at the beautiful Holbrook Palmer Park:

July 21 till July 25, 2008.

This camp is offered to elementary bi-lingual children in grades four and five. Children will learn different painting techniques inspired by famous artists under the direction of Mrs. Claudia Myall, who has taught a successful art program at St. Raymond School in Menlo Park for eleven years. Ms. Myall received her degree in Art and Design from UC Davis.

“Seeds of Hope, Trees for Tomorrow!”

We would like to invite you to support this important and timely initiative to plant a seed for hope in Lebanon. Become involved with American University of Beirut (AUB) efforts at conserving nature by supporting IBSAR and its programs in nature conservation, knowledge sharing, and sustainable livelihoods. During the next 18 months, IBSAR will mobilize young people in local communities to participate in this important grassroots effort to collect and plant seeds in order to produce 50,000 native trees of different species in the next two years. The campaign will also increase awareness about the importance of preventing forest destruction.

LAA & WLCU Spring Annual Picnic

Thank you all for joining us at the Lebanese American Association and  the World Lebanese Cultural Union Spring Annual Picnic.  Huge thanks to everyone who made this Spring Picnic a wonderful success. Smiling faces were everywhere…

The Spring Annual Picnic was a great get-together with friends and family. The wonderful sounds of Music and Derbake’ was all over. Kids had a blast with the activities. Guests will be talking about the fun time they had for years to come!!!



17th Annual Banquet

The Lebanese American Association 17th Annual Banquet was a night full of Entertainment and Surprises. The Banquet was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1333 Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame, California 94010.

The evening program started with cocktails and Complimentary Professional Studio Photography in the Harbour Room by Photostudio professional photographer Bryan Asmar. Couples and families were in line to take a professional photo. Photographer covered the banquet and took key photos.

Welcoming remarks by President of LAA Tom Makdissy followed by the Lebanese Consul General the Honorable Fadi Hajali. The Partnership for Lebanon program was in the spotlight with a keynote video recorded address by Chairman of Intel Dr. Craig Barrett

Dinner started at 8:15 p.m. and it is worth mentioning the desert was great.

Following Dinner the Highlight of the evening took place: The Presentation of Outstanding Achievement Awards to the following Honorees:

  • The Honorable Walid Maalouf, the Director of Public Diplomacy for Middle Eastern & MEPI Affairs at USAID. He is responsible for enhancing communications between the agency and the broader Middle Eastern community in America and abroad.
  • Dr Fouad Freiha originated surgical advances including improvements in the technique of radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, and the invention of the “Stanford Pouch”, a method of bladder substitution allowing patients to have a more normal life following bladder removal for cancer.
  • Dr Tali Bashour helped in establishing the Medical School at the University of Balamand in Lebanon and is currently Vice President of the University for Medical Studies and a member of its board of trustees. In addition, Dr. Bashour leads a fulltime cardiology practice, mainly at Seton Medical Center.

The musical entertainment performance commenced at 9:30 p.m. by Fadi Hanani and Band followed by Doris Farhat who flew from Chicago.

The Silent Auction opened at 6:30 and closed at 9:30. The prizes included Silk Painting “Filoli Garden” donated by Artist Nahda Balaa, Two Night Stay at the Lakeside Inn and casino Lake Tahoe donated by Dick Jeha, Dinner for six at Sahara Restaurant donated by Sahara Restaurant, Hair Services Extensions & permanent make-up by Michael Joe’s European Salon Hair on Computer donated by Michael Joe and a Weekend Stay at Hyatt Regency Burlingame with Brunch for two donated by Hyatt Regency Burlingame.

The Honorable Walid Maalouf had a book signing event for his newly published book “How Many Times … I Told You- Reflections, Memories and Hope for Lebanon”

Superb Dinner, Marvelous Entertainment, Fabulous Prizes!!! It was a night to remember…



Peace and Freedom Fundraiser

Thank You for joining us for the Peace and Freedom Fundraiser event for the Lebanese Army and their families.  It was a special patriotic evening as we honored and saluted the Lebanese Soldiers in their fight for Lebanon’s freedom and against terrorism. We have raised $18,000 which went to the Lebanese Army Fund. This Lebanese Army fund will be distributed to the families of our fallen soldiers.

This successful special event was hosted by the LebNet Board and Intel at Intel's Headquarters in Santa Clara.
This event featured a special presentation by Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel, on the Partnership for Lebanon. Invitations were extended to LebNet members, Lebanese American Association, TechWadi, and their invited guests.
Intel, along with Cisco, GHAFARI, Microsoft, and Occidental Petroleum, are corporate sponsors of the Partnership for Lebanon. Formed in September of 2006, the Partnership's goals are to raise awareness and funds to aid in the rebuilding of Lebanon, and to create public-private partnerships designed to help the people of Lebanon find the path to long-term stability and economic growth.
